Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is an interpersonal, relational intervention used by trained psychotherapists to aid clients in problems of living. A range of techniques are employed based on experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication and behaviour-change and are designed to improve the mental health of a client or patient, or to improve group relationships (such as in a family).

This therapy can be seen as an interpersonal invitation offered to aid clients in reaching their full potential or to cope better with problems of life. Techniques are used to increase awareness for example, or to enable other choices of thought, feeling or action; to increase the sense of well-being and to better manage subjective discomfort or trauma.

Psychotherapy can be provided on a one to one basis or in group therapy and occurs face to face. Its time frame may be a matter of weeks or over many years. This form of therapy may address specific issues, blocks or anxiety in relationships or in general life. Treatment of everyday problems is more often referred to as counselling, but the term is sometimes used interchangeably with "psychotherapy" nowadays. Whereas Life Coaching is more for attaining personal, business or career goals.
